| Waist-to-hip Ratio |
The distance around the waist divided by the distance around the hips. A ratio of 0.80 or less is desirable (0.90 for men) and greater than 1.0 is considered at risk. See also abdominal obesity. |
| Warfarin |
an anticoagulant (blood thinner) that interferes with the blood's ability to clot; sold under the brand name Coumadin |
| White blood cell |

| White coat hypertension |
High blood pressure caused by anxiety developed during a visit to a physician. Unlike true hypertension, white coat hypertension does not increase your risk for a heart attack. It is more common in women than in men. |
