a measure of how much blood your heart pumps - or ejects - out of a filled pumping chamber with each heartbeat; used to diagnose and monitor heart failure by determining how well your heart is working (50 percent or higher is normal); usually measured on the left ventricle, the main pumping chamber of the heart
